Crosshair X Not Updating

The following are the most common issues when Crosshair X is not updating on Steam or Microsoft Store and here's how to resolve them.

Steam Content File Locked Error

More often then not, this error occurs because lingering instances of crosshairx.exe are running and Steam cannot update a file that is running so we need to close them.

1
Open Task Manager by either pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete or searching for it in the Windows search bar.
2

Scroll through each item under 'Apps' and 'Background Processes'. These are located in detailed view and under the 'Processes' tab of Task Manager.

3
Press 'End Task' on each Crosshair X related process. Resume the update in Steam.

Delete the Crosshair X user preferences folder

1
Stop running the app and make sure all occurences of crosshairx.exe are not running.
2
Find the Crosshair X user preferences folder.

This folder is typically called "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Crosshair X".

NOTE: the AppData folder is a hidden folder on Windows. Either make hidden folders visible or navigate to the Roaming folder directly.

3
Delete this folder and restart the app. WARNING: You will lose all of your saved crosshairs.
