Troubleshooting Lag, Stuttering & FPS Issues
If you're experiencing lag, stuttering, FPS drops, delay, freezing, or odd mouse movement with Crosshair X, there are several potential causes. Follow this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to identify and fix your performance issues.
Update Windows

Make sure your Windows operating system is updated to the latest version available. This ensures compatibility and optimal performance.
Enable Hardware Acceleration

Open Crosshair X.

Navigate to the Options page.

Set Hardware Acceleration to on.
Optimize Mouse Settings

Open your mouse software.

Set your mouse polling rate to 1000Hz or lower, especially when using a system with a weaker CPU.
Close Resource-Heavy Background Programs
Close any unnecessary or resource-intensive programs running in the Windows system tray/hidden icon menu, such as:
- Wallpaper Engine
- Rainmeter
- Lively Wallpaper
- Recording apps (Medal, Steelseries.gg, etc.)
GPU-Specific Optimizations
For NVIDIA GPUs:

Open the NVIDIA overlay (press Alt+Z by default).

Navigate to the Instant replay page and disable it.

Navigate to the Highlights page and disable it.
For AMD GPUs:

Open your AMD Radeon software.

Globally disable these features:
- Fluid Motion Frames
- Anti-lag
- Anisotropic Filtering
- Instant replay

Try with AMD Freesync enabled/disabled to see what works best for your system.
Set Crosshair X to Realtime Priority

Open the Windows task manager.

Navigate to the Details page.

Search for "crosshair" and right-click each Crosshair X instance, hover over 'set priority' and set all to Realtime.
